When an invite popped into my inbox for a beer and food pairing event at Bodeans BBQ in Covent Garden I was keen to go. I had previously visited a different branch of Bodeans BBQ with Amit and had a fantastic dining experience.
The Covent Garden branch is a newer restaurant and it is tucked away in the midst of the lively Covent Garden close to Theatres and others bars and restaurants, and a short walk away from the main piazza.
We had a lovely area towards the back of the restaurant and I had turned up hungry in anticipation of what was to come.
The menu (as pictured below). paired 5 different types of beer to 5 different dishes. What was nice about this menu was the variation of food, and items which I would not normally think to order from Bodeans, but which were all pleasantly good.
We started off with a Mexican Chicken Salad which was paired with an ale from Hawaii, named the Big Wave Golden Ale. As someone who doesn’t normally drink beer, this was really refreshing and I enjoyed it.
The second dish, which was thankfully to share, was pulled pork with house coleslaw paired with Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale. Again this was a lovely one to drink and probably my favourite from them all.
The third dish was Cajun swordfish with mango salsa and fried okra. The combination on paper sounded interesting and it tasted really good. I would not normally think to order the fish at Bodeans so it was a nice way to try it.
This was paired with the Californian Tropical IPA. The two went very well together.
The Baby Back Ribs and house chips. Oooh la la baby were these good. Everyone on the table put aside their forks and knives and dug straight in. These were definitely the highlight of the entire meal and what I am craving most as I am typing this up.
The ribs were paired with the Single Wide IPA and this was served in a bottle. The ribs though. OMG so good.
The prospect of homemade brownie with ice cream kept us going even though everyone was pretty much stuffed by this point. The brownie was oh so good and the ice cream magical. The perfect sweet way to end a very delicious meal.
To pair the brownie and ice cream, was the Black Cab Stout, which was my second favourite drink of the evening.
I love Bodeans BBQ generally, and this event was a lovely way to experience some of the dishes I hadn’t tried previously. It was also a good way to ease into learning about different types of beers just before summer starts in full swing as they are a refreshing drink perfect for summer.
If you haven’t been to Bodeans BBQ and are a meat lover you have got to get yourself down there and try everything as the food is incredible!
