My Top 10 ‘Pinch me’ Memorable Travel Experiences

My Top 10 ‘Pinch me’ Memorable Travel Experiences

I absolutely love reflecting on my travels and the memories made in certain places or during trips. Here are my top 10 ‘pinch me’ memorable travel experiences, in no particular order apart from the first one 😉

Being proposed to in Antigua and Barbuda

My number one ‘Pinch me” Travel moment will always be the moment Amit proposed to me on a beautiful beach in Antigua, after we had spent the day on the pink sandy beaches in Barbuda.

I was none the wiser and had said I wanted chips for dinner as I was really tired, but he dragged me out saying he was really hungry, and walked me to ‘The restaurant’ which was actually a private table set up on the beach just for us with some romantic tracks playing, flames lighting the beach up and just amazing. He totally surprised me. It was so romantic and just one of the moments I will never ever forget.

Dinner with James Martin out in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea

Being out in the middle of the sea on a cruise having dinner cooked by James Martin was up there with one of those crazy ‘pinch me is this real’ moments. I had been upset when he had left the Saturday Morning show as my Saturday mornings were never the same again. But fret not as he is soon to appear back on televisions brightening up our Saturday mornings once again 😉

He is even taller in real life, he is such a charismatic guy, very cheeky and makes delicious food. I got rather fan girly and obsessed with him after the trip (more than I already was) and it goes down in history as one of the most memorable meals ever.

I am forever grateful to P&O Cruises for this experience. If you are yet to go on a cruise it is definitely one to experience. It was my first time cruising and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Truffle hunting in Tuscany

I love off the beaten track experiences, and going Truffle hunting in Tuscany was incredible. Especially as I adore truffle in my food, especially chips and pasta, and so it was good to see how they are sourced using highly trained dogs and learning more about one of Tuscany’s treasures.

I had the best time and the dog that was being used during our hunt, was just adorable. You can read more about the experience here.

Swimming in the River Rhein in Basel with my belongings

When I was told that we would have to take all our belongings with us in the river when one of our activities on a press trip was swimming in the River Rhein, I had a mild panic. My DSLR, my precious DSLR, in the river? With all the various lens?

But I did it. And it was one of the best things I ever did for swimming in the River Rhein was just fantastic, refreshing and one of those ‘I can’t believe I am doing this’ moments.

My belongings were perfectly safe in a waterproof bag which doubled up as a floating aid.

If you ever visit Basel (you 100% have to visit), take your swimsuit and do not miss out on this opportunity!

Ziplining in St Kitts

img_8904-1

I have a fear of heights. I get really nervous and paranoid and can never bring myself to look down. But when we went to St Kitts I bravely agreed to go Zip Lining with Amit and apart from injuring my back from the impact of one of the lines, it was literally one of those experiences I am so glad I did as I conquered some of my fear of heights.

If you ever get a chance to go Zip lining, its a wonderful way to see a place from a different perspective, albeit at top speed from high above, and is one for the adrenaline seekers.

Climbing the Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico City

Mexico City was one of the best places I ever visited. I went on a press trip, flying solo from London and joining other journalists there, made new friends and also climbed the absolutely amazing Teotihuacan pyramids. It was an absolutely breathtaking view once we got to the top but I did scream and go up slowly and panic every 5 minutes that I was going to fall off!

If you are planning a trip to Mexico, try and combine Mexico City in the trip too and please visit these pyramids. You will love it! For more about my experience, visit my site here.

Being a Pizzaoila for a day in Naples

Naples is world famous for its Neapolitan pizza, and one of our stops during my cruise with P&O was Naples, and the activity we chose for the destination was pizza making. It was so much fun being a pizzaiola for the day and an experience I would recommend to anyone visiting Naples. The best part is you get to eat the pizzas you’ve made and refresh yourself with delicious Italian wine. Win Win!

Afternoon Tea with Giraffes in Kenya

Kenya is filled with unreal, amazing moments, and one of my favourite ones was having Afternoon Tea at the Giraffe Manor in the company of Giraffes and some rather cheeky Warthogs. It goes down in history as one of the most unique Afternoon Teas I have ever had.

It is one you need to book well in advance but one definitely worth adding to that bucket list! Read more here.

If you don’t get a booking, you can still interact with Giraffes and feed and kiss them at the nearby Giraffe Centre and you can read more about that here.

Tea tasting in Mauritius

Mauritius is a beautiful island and everything you see in those honeymoon brochures. One of my favourite experiences during our holiday there, was visiting the Bois Cheri Tea plantation, where we first walked through the factory and saw how tea was bagged and processed, the museum so we could learn more about the history, and then settled down to a wonderful tea tasting experience with an unreal view.

Leopold café in Mumbai

img_0750img_3037

Ever since I read the book Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts, I have been obsessed with visiting The Leopold Cafe  in Mumbai as it is where the main character famously spent a lot of time sitting in the café with his associates. It has been a Bombay institution and was founded in 1871. I finally visited last year and it was everything I hoped for.

It was also a rather sad experience at the same time as you could still see bullet holes from the Terrorist attack that Mumbai had experienced.

This month we are getting all crazy – and the topic is simply ’10 things…’
