Back to the classics with the new Afternoon Tea at The Palm Court, Langham London

There is a brand new Afternoon Tea in collaboration with Wedgwood at the Langham and this one is the first from newly appointed Executive Pastry Chef at The Langham, London, Andrew Gravett, and his team.

Named “Back to the Classics”, it has taken a more traditional turn. I was lucky enough to preview this Afternoon Tea and can confirm that every single pastry is not only aesthetically gorgeous but delicious as well and a fabulous Afternoon Tea.

The top tier of an Afternoon Stand is always my favourite and the one I look forward to and so I am going to start with the choices available for the sweet toothed lover!

First up is the classic Paris Brest which is a crunchy Choux pastry filled with lightened pecan cream and caramelised pecans. This was literally amazing and my favourite of the entire selection. Nostalgia hit as I dreamt of my last trip to Paris.

Not only do I adore the name Babalicious, but it was scrumptious too. Served in a glass it features a blackcurrant and star anise soaked baba, Jivara whipped ganache and is topped with crunchy pearls.

The Decidedly Madeleine offers the classic Madeleine sponge, passion fruit jelly wrapped in a coat of Itakuja. It had a lovely shimmery sparkle to it too and topped the pretty stakes.

Spherically Challenged comprises of creamy coconut, liquid raspberry and Manjari mousse and is a stunning pastry.

Last but not least, the One in a Million showcases a caramelised puff pastry with vanilla infused mascarpone.  This was very dreamy and my second favourite from the selection.

Sandwiches are such an interesting part of an Afternoon Tea and these ones are created by the Executive Chef of The Langham, London, Chris King.

The selection includes Burford Brown egg, which has marinated artichoke and served on rosemary bread, a classic English cucumber sandwich with cream cheese and chives,
Beef Pastrami with sauce ‘Albert’ and watercress and served on caramelised onion bread, Scottish smoked salmon with Sarawak pepper and preserved lemon cream and finally the classic ‘prawn cocktail’ served with iceberg, potato bun, and tomato powder.

I love the twists to the classics in the sandwiches and the various flavours and ingredients used, particularly the choice of bread used. My favourite was definitely the prawn cocktail sandwich and I could easily have eaten a plate of these. The only one I didn’t try was the Smoked Salmon as I am not a Salmon fan in general.

The new Langham Afternoon Tea in collaboration with Wedgwood is available in the Palm Court with a selection of scones as well as various blended teas. It is served between 12:15pm and 5:30pm.

It costs £49 per person and £59 if you opt for a glass of N.V Laurent-Perrier with it.
