I love Brunch and the prospect of an Italian brunch is always a very welcome one. I recently dined at Theo’s Simply Italian, where there is a new weekend brunch menu with some blogger friend, as well as in the company of Theo Randall himself. The nicest part about this event was putting faces to names of several internet friends, and it almost felt like a mini reunion.
Theo’s Simply Italian is located at Hotel Indigo, a short walk from Earls Court Tube Station. Theo is already known for his restaurant in the Intercontinental, and this is a more relaxed, all day dining restaurant and deli, compared to his other restaurants, offering simple Italian dishes full of flavour. The perfect comfort food in my opinion, and Italian food is one of those which are better the simpler they are!
With a glass of fizz in hand, we were first treated to a pasta masterclass by Theo, while we watched in wonder as he demonstrated how to prove the dough, and showed us how to make linguine and ravioli. He made it look so easy and part of me want to get my pasta machine out and have a go one day soon. There is nothing quite like fresh pasta!
After the masterclass we settled down in the restaurant at a lovely long table for brunch, starting with dreamy, rustic focaccia bread, which was so soft and delicious, and warm, as if just freshly made.
We then had a platter of Napoli Salami, ham, Pugliese Burrata, served with rocket and roasted tomatoes. This is one of my weaknesses and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the soft, creamy, melt in your mouth burrata. NOM NOM NOM.
Next up was a selection of 3 pasta dishes starting with Ravioli di Ricotta e Erbette. Ravioli is always my go to dish in Italian restaurants as I love the pockets filled with flavour, especially when it is ricotta.
The second pasta dish was Taglierini Pescatore, which was Fine pasta with mussels clams, prawns, fish and parsley in a garlic and tomato sauce.
The third, which was Aftab’s favourite, was a Pappardelle with Beef Ragout. He devoured this and enjoyed every bite as he had been craving this dish for so long. The last few Itlaina restaurants we had been to had surprisingly not offered this dish and so he was so excited when it was on the brunch menu.
For Secondi we were treated to Sea Bream with Grilled Vegetables, which was fabulous. There was grilled aubergine on the side which was just heavenly as well as grilled peppers, which I loved.
The second choice was a Pork T-bone with Rainbow Chard and Portobello Mushrooms. This was really nice too, but I am not a massive pork fan, and so it was not my favourite out of the choices.
The third dish was a Tagliata di Manzo -Chargrilled Bavette of beef med-rare with borlotti beans, rocket and roasted tomatoes. This was my preferred dish out of the three and the meat was cooked really well.
After such a fabulous meal, it was time for a selection of Dolci!
Ideal for sharing between two, you have Tiramisu, Ricotta Cheesecake and a Soft Chocolate cake, served with vanilla gelato. Mama mia was it good! The Tiramisu was on point and my favourite out of the desserts.
The choices on the brunch menu are fantastic and it is such a reasonable price for the amount of food you get. If you love Italian food and are looking for somewhere new to try for brunch, this is a lovely one.
The weekend brunch is £35 per person including glass of Prosecco.
